Iconic Soul Singer and Maze Frontman Frankie Beverly Dies Aged 77

Frankie Beverly, the legendary frontman of the soul band Maze, has passed away at the age of 77.

His family confirmed the news in a statement on social media, revealing the singer died on Tuesday, September 10. No official cause of death has been disclosed. Beverly was widely celebrated for his soulful music and influence, particularly within the Black community.

Beverly founded Maze in 1970, and the band enjoyed a prolific career, releasing nine albums, eight of which achieved Gold certification. The group is best known for hits such as ‘Before I Let Go,’ ‘Running Away,’ and ‘Back in Stride.’ Earlier this year, Maze embarked on a farewell tour across the US, which marked the final performances of Beverly’s career. His song ‘Before I Let Go’ was notably covered by Beyoncé in 2019, a move Beverly described as one of the high points of his life.
