Ibiza clubs Linked to 1/3 of Ambulance Callouts

One third of all ambulance callouts in Ibiza are linked to nightclubs, according to a healthcare workers’ union warning of growing strain on the island’s emergency services.

The Union of Healthcare Technicians (USAE) claims public ambulances are being overwhelmed by nightclub incidents, while only one venue, DC-10, is currently using a private ambulance provider.

The union says Ibiza’s ambulance fleet suffers from poor maintenance, with some vehicles lacking air conditioning despite summer temperatures reaching 47°C. USAE President José Manuel Maroto criticised wealthy nightclub operators for not funding their own emergency support, arguing that this is pushing public services to “breaking point” and risking care for other island residents.

Data from the union suggests that five out of every 15 ambulance responses are to nightclubs, with many involving drug-related incidents that require complex handling. Ibiza welcomed a record three million tourists in 2023, with British nationals representing a significant portion of both visitors and drug-related fatalities on the island.
