Brighton’s Iconic Late-Night Clubbers’ Cafe Reopens

Brighton’s legendary Buddies Fish & Chips Cafe, once a go-to spot for clubbers seeking a post-night-out fry-up, has made a return to the seafront.

The cafe, known for serving revellers in the early hours after Brighton’s clubs closed, had been a staple on Kings Road for over 20 years before rebranding as Monarchs in 2021. Following further changes, including a brief stint as Indian restaurant Malika, Buddies has now reopened, though without its famous 24-hour service.

The new Buddies Fish & Chips Cafe is open from 8am, closing at 9pm on weekdays, midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 10pm on Sundays. While it will no longer be serving clubbers at dawn, its return has sparked nostalgia among locals who fondly remember stopping by for a fry-up after a night out.

Fans of Buddies have taken to social media to reminisce about its past. Despite the changes, Buddies remains a well-loved part of Brighton’s nightlife history.
